Volunteers are needed to help work on the Revere portion of the Northern Strand Trail on Saturday, October 25 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Work includes clearing brush, picking up trash, and installing recycled railroad ties to create an entrance to the trail at the intersection of Salem Street and Franklin Street in Revere. This is the only section of the trail in Revere that crosses a roadway and the Bike to the Sea organization plans on building a park-like entrance to keep vehicles off the trail.
The City of Malden plans to start construction on the Linden Square crossing into Revere this month. The grand opening of the Revere portion of the trail is expected in the spring of 2015.
Once both projects are complete, the Northern Strand Trail will have seven miles of continuous trail, from Everett, through Malden, Revere, and Saugus. The city of Lynn has not yet approved plans to continue the trail to the seashore at Nahant Beach.
