Bike to the Sea volunteers fixed 26 bikes at a pop-up bike kitchen repair shop along the trail on Saturday, April 23.

Six volunteers, along with Bike to the Sea Executive Director Jonah Chiarenza and his 5-year-old son, Enzo, worked on the bikes at the “Joseph’s Garden” spot along the Northern Strand Trail, just east of Maplewood Street in Malden.

The bikes were donated to Bike to the Sea and will be given away. Some are reserved for adults and children who need them to participate in the Family Fun ride on June 18. Families who want to participate in that free ride should register here:

Bike to the Sea Executive Director Jonah Chiarenza and his 5-year-old son, Enzo, had fun at the event on April 23.

“We’re trying to reach communities of people who may not necessarily think about biking and hope that providing free bikes will encourage them to get out and ride,” said Chiarenza.

The volunteers worked side-by-side repairing 18 children’s bikes and 8 adult bikes under sunny skies and warm weather in the 60s. Some of the bikes will also be donated to the Malden Bike Fair being held on Saturday, May 14

Anyone who wants to donate a bike or get one should email news@biketothesea.org.
