Bike to the Sea held its first ever group ride on the fire roads of the Middlesex Fells Reservation on Saturday, June 28th. The ride started and ended at the Bike to the Sea Bike Kitchen. Read from one of the group riders of his experience!
“I joined the Explore the Fells Ride on my 25c road tires—definitely not the “ideal” setup for gravel, and honestly, I was a little scared. I’d always avoid going into the reservation, thinking that I’d get lost or that my bike would just broke. But this time, I decided to go anyway, telling myself: just ride as far as you can. What surprised me was how safe and supported I felt. Riding with the group, following the guides, hearing the occasional “you’ve got this!”—it made a huge difference. The trail wasn’t easy at some point, but it was far from impossible. And as the ride went on, something changed in my mind. I stopped worrying about whether my tires were too skinny. I was just riding, exploring, and really enjoying it.That night opened something up for me. It was the first time I truly felt like gravel riding could be for me—not someday when I had better gear or more experience. It’s funny how one ride, one decision to try, can start a whole new chapter. For me, Explore the Fells wasn’t just a ride—it was the beginning of my gravel experience.”
